JANELLE NAVARRA
Philippines
Janelle is a lawyer from The Philippines. Janelle’s resilience and strength allowed her to become a lawyer. Her professional interests lie with financial technologies and expanding banking access to rural and poor areas of the Philippines as a tool to empower women. Her ambition is to become a lawyer and civil servant who creates a positive impact by strengthening and innovating the operating regulatory framework for a sounder financial system. Janelle joined the Master in Commercial Company law at Erasmus Law School in Rotterdam. Janelle graduated and obtained her Master diploma in 2020.
SABINA LASKAR
India
Sabina studied Economics and later Development Studies and grew up in a small city in Madhya Pradesh. She is passionate about women rights and maternal health. Sabina has extensive field work in her country on issues such as female internal migration, mainly in cases of domestic workers and child marriage. She is acutely aware of issues women face in India and strives to help bring sustainable change upon her return. Sabina is following her Master at the Institute of Social Studies (ISS) in The Hague.
Ekin Su Yılmaz
Turkey
Ekim's motivation and long term goals are aimed at creating impact in the areas of gender equality, diversity and female empowerment in a country where this is much needed. Ekim has applied to the Masters’ Degree in International Public Management and Public Policy and her plans after finishing her studies are to return to Turkey to help build a more equal society, increasing women's leadership and participation in civil society and political decision-making.
Karen Kilwake
Kenya
Karen is a social entrepreneur. She has far-reaching experience in non-governmental organizations on different development & humanitarian themes. Consequently, she is cognizant of the gender & wealth disparities that continue to mar children & youth in Kenya in light of the daunting high unemployment rate and rising child labour statistics. Her future plan is to mitigate this through capacity building resolute on entrepreneurial competencies as relates to SDG 8. Subsequently, she is pursuing her Master’s degree in Social Policy for Development at ISS, in The Hague. She believes policy cohesion holds the promise to remedy persistent poverty, promote social inclusion, build human capital & improve access to social services.
Mai Vu Phuong
Vietnam
Mai has worked in the media and communication field at different places with community-focused products and services. Her plan for the future is to build a media agency in Vietnam that targets local, small and medium-sized NGOs and NPOs and offers strategic services at an affordable price. She believes that her ambition will help these NGOs and NPOs be seen clearly and boldly by the public, which will then help them get more money to run. She is pursuing a Master's degree in Media and Creative Industries at Erasmus University Rotterdam.
Gabriel Lins
Brazil
Born and raised in Brazil, Gabriel is a lawyer who views the law as a tool for socioeconomic development. In his previous work, he provided legal assistance to startups and innovative SMEs incubated in his hometown technology cluster, Porto Digital. With the scholarship support, Gabriel has enrolled in the Master in Commercial and Company Law at Erasmus University Rotterdam. During this period, he has taken part in his course's student panel and has volunteered to mentor Brazilian students aiming to study abroad. Gabriel hopes to use his acquired knowledge to advance businesses' innovation, governance, and sustainability.
